Overview
Nanchang University, the key comprehensive provincial institution and one of the key constructive universities of China supported by the government under the State 211 Project, is located in Nanchang, the beautiful capital city of Jiangxi Province. It is entitled by the Ministry of Education of China to enroll foreign students supported by the Chinese government scholarship and it is also one of the Chinese universities where foreign students come to study with the foreign government scholarships. Nanchang University, initially named National Zhong-Zheng University, was founded in 1940. In May of 1993, Nanchang University was re-established by combining the Jiangxi University and the Jiangxi Polytechnic University. In December of 2004, an agreement was signed by the Ministry of Education of China and the provincial government of Jiangxi to co-manage the Nanchang University. In August of 2005, the university merged the Jiangxi Medical College to become today’s Nanchang University. The university promotes international exchange and cooperation and now has established stable relationship of exchange and cooperation with more than 30 institutes of higher education, scientific research institutions and administrative departments in over 20 countries. Nanchang University has established the International Education College specialized in training foreign students to study Chinese language and engaging in degree teaching of concerned majors. The university has set up the special building for international students accommodation. Since 1991, it has begun to recruit foreign students from the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Korean, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Laos, Thailand, Burundi, Guinea, Kampuchea, Syria, Tanzania, Cameron, and other countries. The teaching resource is abundant and all the teachers who are arranged in teaching international students Chinese have got the Aptitude Certification of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The college has an advanced administrative level and the scope of recruiting foreign students is being expanded with obvious achievement.

Infrastructure
Campus
Nanchang University is located in ancient city crowned ” the City of Heroes”. It is now consists of five districts: QingShan Lake District, Qian Lake District, East Lake District, Poyan Lake District, and Fuzhou District which covers 8052 mu. It is the largest university in campus area and its environment is beautiful and agreeable. The total value of teaching instrument and equipment reaches 310 million Yuan, and the volume of books in the library exceeds 2,900,000. There are two national key laboratories, one project center directed by the Ministry of Education, one clinical pharmacology base at national level and one branch center in Jiangxi province of the national research center for the stem cell engineering and technology as well as ten affiliated hospitals of various kinds. These kinds of equipment can provide good condition of experiment and practices to the students.
Academics
There are 2878 professional teachers, including 1471 professors and associate professors, 297 teachers with Doctorate, 1056 teachers with Master’s degree, 5 academicians in the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Social Science, 2 specially employed “Changjiang scholars”, 5 first-level and second-level experts in National “Millions of the Talented” Project, 11 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contribution, 223 stuff enjoying special allowance supplied by the State Council and provincial government. The teachers who are arranged in teaching foreign international students Chinese all obtain the “Aptitude Certification of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language”.
Scientific Research
MSNU has an admirable record in medical research. In teh last 5 years, it undertook over 1021 research projects, 32 of which were sponsored by National Funding, 239 by Provincial Funding and 29 were on the National Reward list. There are also publications of 180 professional books and 3500 paper publications in academic journals. Valuing highly the cooperation and academic exchanges with the outside world, MSNU has established and maintained friendly relations with universities, hospitals and research institutions of Japan, UK, USA, Canada etc. To date there are 28 visiting professors from abroad and over 1000 teaching and research staff working and studying in foreign countries.
